Electronic Micrometer

An electronic micrometer, like the common micrometer, measures distance between two points on an object. The electronic micrometer includes a casing defining at least an internal volume, in which a sleeve is disposed to have an at least partially threaded inner surface.

In an electronic micrometer, a screw is engaged in this sleeve and is able to be put in rotation with respect to the sleeve in such a way as to displace itself along the longitudinal measuring axis (x) of the device. There is a capacitive system of measurement for measuring the relative rotation of the screw with respect to the sleeve and for determining, starting with that measurement, the longitudinal position of the screw.

The casing of electronic micrometer comprises two half-shells. At least one filiform joint allows the internal volume inside the casing to be sealed. Other sealing means are provided to prevent any infiltration of water or of dust into this internal volume. That is why, electronic micrometer is protected.

Finding the best type of electronic micrometer is not an easy task because there are many electronic micrometers to choose from. As time goes on, there will be more micrometers displayed out. There are several important factors you can consider to help you narrow down your choices.

The measuring range is the main factor for you to consider about when choosing an electronic micrometer. How long and how big the items you need to measure? Is it between 0-25mm, 25-50mm, 50-75mm or 75mm-100mm, etc. If you are sure about the measuring range you need, then you can pick up a proper micrometers.

Also, do not only take a look at the measuring range, shape and screen. Make sure you take a look at the back or the sides of the electronic micrometer. So, you can see how many ports it has, and which types. What kind of the interface it can be used to connect to the computer. Is the port come with COM port/RS232C port or USB port.

Another thing you should consider to find your best electronic micrometer is brand. Do you have a preferred brand or one that you trust? What is the brand of your other appliances? Are you brave enough to try to buy the micrometer from a new brand? Even though brand is not as important as other factors, it can help you in narrowing down your choices.

Last but not the least, consider how much you want to spend your money to buy the electronic micrometer. Even, when you are going to buy a micrometer, you must consider the price first.
